There must have been all sorts of books on al-Mutanabbi Street. Books in an assortment of conditions and prices and for a variety of intended purposes: scholarship, commerce, entertainment, &c. We wanted to create a book of the kind that might have been treasured if it had been discovered on a shelf. A book that would have been recognized for it specialness by its design, printing and binding. Once opened, we want each reader to experience each page as a tribute and an honor in remembering the name of the people who were killed when the car bomb exploded on al-Mutanabbi Street. We hope the experience is a visceral one because of the transformative nature of each page and the name that has been obliterated and burned away.
