Storage Book Teaching Model by Valerie Carrigan - SOLD

Hedi Kyle was my mentor in graduate school. I had the enviable job of being her teaching assistant. I was, of course, in awe of the myriad structures that Hedi invented and taught, but also the way in which she taught them. She encouraged in her students the joy of discovery as well as the traditional techniques of bookbinding. I look fondly back on the days spent working with Hedi in the bindery, cutting paper, devising projects, talking over ideas. The storage book was a class favorite. In the years since, I have made a teaching model of this structure. My book arts students make this model every semester before embarking on their own personal version of the storage book. Whether through an object recessed in the page or one encapsulated in mylar, Hedi Kyle's influences have found their way into this small book, which in the spirit of Hedi, is now being passed on to my own students.
