US-THEM by Elsi Vassdal Ellis

The concept for this book began with my contribution to my book arts production course collaborative project with the theme of "monsters." It was expanded and redesigned to incorporate additional text. The book is an accordion with mini-accordions attached to each page. The reader is asked to determine if, by looking into someone's eyes, you are able to determine if you are in the company of a "desk murderer." Portraits of men and women from the mid- to late-19th century were used in the mini-accordions as the faces to gaze upon while pondering the question of "desk murderers."
