Windows of Your Mind by Margy OBrien
I have dreamed about discovering openings in the walls of our house that revealed previously unknown rooms, bringing me a different perspective, new possibilities, and surprise insights. This book conjures dreamlike window variations - unexpected windows, windows within windows, revealing new views, overlooked details and mysterious space.Coincidentally, while reading Sarah Susanka’s book, The Not So Big Life, I came across text that dealt with windows as metaphors for breaking through the perceived boundaries in our lives. This book uses her words (with permission) and my imagery of paste paper then stamped, stenciled, collaged and cut. There are bits of iridescent acrylic throughout, and the cover was painted with Pearl Ex gold powder, then buffed with Dorland’s soft wax for a luminous dreamlike surface. The structure of the book has a “window” in the spine and the front cover to emphasize the theme.
