2022 La Picossa Garnacha Negra, Terra Alta, Spain

Garnacha Negra Vins de Relat is a Catalonian winery making fresh and contemporary wines from traditional regional varieties. Their Garnacha Negra is named after the La Picossa Mountain which separates the region of Terra Alta from the Terres de l’Ebre. The mountain is likely named for Pablo Picasso, who in 1909 lived in Terra Alta in a village called Horta de Sant Joan while recovering from a long-term illness. Today Terra Alta is the largest wine growing and making region for Garnacha.  This Garnacha shows ruby red with subtle purple highlights. It’s fairly aromatic with notes of black berry fruit and ripe cherry with touches of vanilla and pepper. The palate is structured and fruit-forward with nuances of soft oak.
