100% Garnacha This natural red wine from Spain is a collaboration between the importer, Rooted, and a small organic family estate in Navarra, Bodegas Beramendi. The name Lurbira itself is intended to tie both sides together. Lurbira in the ancient Basque pantheon was the “Mother Goddess of the Earth.” The namesake represents their commitment to the environment, and also links co-founder Travis Smith’s degree in Religious Humanities with a nod to the woman-power behind Bodegas Beramendi, and Becky (other co-founder) and Travis’ commitment to furthering women’s rights for their daughter.  The inspiration behind Lurbira was simple really, it had to be a Rooted wine. Meaning it needed to come from a family winery who farms and makes their wines as naturally as possible, with one other caveat added in: it needed to be affordable for everyone to drink.
