Title: "Santa Clare." St. Clare of Assisi was born into great wealth and abandoned it all, becoming one of the first followers of St. Francis of Assisi. She founded the order of Poor Clares, a monastic religious order for women in the Franciscan tradition, and wrote their Rule of Life, the first set of monastic guidelines known to have been written by a woman. Her mother and sister joined her in the monastery. She restored the Rule of severe poverty, austerity, seclusion and silence in 17 monasteries during her lifetime. Twice, when her convent was under attack she displayed the Blessed Sacrament on the wall successfully thwarting the invasion, telling her sisters to trust Jesus. When she was too sick and immobile to attend Mass, St. Clare saw and heard Mass on the wall of her cell. Pope Pius XII named her the patron saint of television.
