Title: "Saint Joan of Arc." St. Joan of Arc is the heroine of France and revered for her faithfulness and courage in battle and at her trial and execution. A poor, uneducated peasant girl with pious parents, at age 14, Joan began to hear voices of St. Michael the Archangel, St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Margaret of Antioch. The voices told her that she had a mission to save France. The English had invaded and allied with a Burgundian army to displace the French king and threatened to conquer the whole nation. She gained the confidence of King Charles VII who sent her to the head of the army at Orleans where her victory turned the tide of war and regained the French kingdom. Leading a bold attack in Paris, she was wounded in battle, captured by soldiers from Burgundy and sold to England. She was tried as a witch and burned at the stake at age 19.
