"87 Heads" is an anthology photobook of iconic hairstyles conceptualized by hair stylists Hiro+Mari and photographer Maru Teppei. This book is a love letter to the East Williamsburg neighborhood where their salon, 87 Brooklyn, is located on Graham Avenue. The photos convey the arm and friendly community surrounding the salon.The project began as a way to deepen interactions with people living and working on Graham Avenue. However, the project was temporarily put on hold due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in New York City and the subsequent lockdown order. For about three and a half months, the hair salon was closed, and they were unable to work.Nevertheless, despite the pandemic, they remained in Brooklyn, never giving up on their creativity and passion for hair art. After more than six months since the lockdown began, they resumed the 87 project and invited ordinary people to participate in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic.
