The Leonard St shop’s once dry goods manager and financier Augustus Juilliard and his wife Helen Juilliard who ran the business in lower Manhattan later became the benefactors of the Juilliard School (conservatory).  In the photographer’s words: “Although the warehouse was renovated decades ago the theatrical facade and original cobblestone street reminded me of a movie set.
