Handcrafted Purple, Kenyan Purple Tea

Purple Tea is produced from a very newly developed cultivar of Camellia sinensis that was developed with extra high levels of anthocyanins, which are special antioxidants often attributed with excellent health benefits to humans. Anthocyananins are also responsible for the red, purple and blue in many edible plants, and in this case produces the distinctive reddish-purple of the leaves on the bush. Our Handcrafted Purple is extremely rare and hard to come by. Fist of all, it is only available through Royal Tea of Kenya, a small tea company owned and operated by Joy W’Njuguna, the granddaughter of the oldest living tea farmer in the world, Arthur Njuguna Komo. At 113 years old he still works round the clock on his tea farm. It is also completely produced by hand by women in the orthodox production method.
