The second-gen Corvette (C2 Stingray) was almost the first Vette to be built as mid- or rear-engine, but that was going to have to wait until the 8th generation (C8). The potent small block V8 (327 cubic-inch) was good for 350hp when equipped with Fuel Injection, while the later option of the 427ci Big Block spun up a potent 435hp. No slouch in any day and age.
