Hollenbeck Simplicity 17” cutaway archtop guitar, made in Lincoln, Illinois, 1994, serial number 2-1994#13. Carved Sitka spruce top on carved flame-maple back and sides. Three-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. Nickel-plated hardware, including handmade tailpiece. Johnny Smith–style floating humbucker pickup. Hardshell case with Small Dog case cover. Est. $4,000 to $6,000 Luthier Bill Hollenbeck is likely most known for his contribution to the Chinery “Blue Guitar” collection, a unique collection of archtop guitars made by contemporary builders. This guitar was handmade in Hollenbeck’s shop in 1994 as part of his Simplicity series, which used the same tonewoods as his standard guitars, but was more plainly appointed.
