This unique 20th century art pottery vessel with an interesting lid is signed and dated by Maryland artist / potter Bob Pittman (Robert Pittman), now retired from his teaching career at Towson University.  The contemporary stoneware cylindrical vessel has a lid with a “knob” like a small cup.  The interior of the knob/cup has a beige glaze.  The rest of the exterior has a dark brown glaze.  The bottom surface is unglazed, as is the horizontal “band” around the bottom edge. The entire interior is unglazed. The interesting shape and design of the art pottery is matched by the equally interesting “drawing” on the surface.  There is an overall pattern of short lines.  The helter skelter lines have been incised or pressed into the clay. Its total height is over 7”.  At its widest, it is about 4 ¾”. This pottery work of art is also a functional container.  So, while you display it as a unique American work of art, you can also use it as a small vessel or “box” to store and organize stuff. It
