Sheep in Landscape Original Painting on Canvas signed Pauline Wilder unframed
This charming landscape features a single sheep standing before a wonderful vista. It has the look of a plein air study or oil sketch ---- although we have no way of knowing if it was done outdoors. It is signed along one of the outer edges; part of the signature is smeared --- but it appears to be Pauline Wilder. The sheep is centered in the brown (dirt ? rock?) foreground / middleground. The upper half of the scene is a beautiful green landscape with a dramatic sky. As you can see from the side edges, there is an undercoat of blue paint (either a base color --- or perhaps a different scene over which this sheep landscape was painted). On the front surface (at the right) of the painting, there are a few small areas of paint loss where you can see the blue showing through. There are also some “splatters” of brown --- that we have made no attempt to clean.
