De Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk
The De Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk is a two-seat, single-engine primary trainer aircraft, known for its role in replacing the de Havilland Tiger Moth in military training programs. It was the first postwar aviation project for de Havilland Canada. The Chipmunk is celebrated for its handling qualities, including well-harmonized controls and docile stalling characteristics, though spinning requires aggressive techniques to recover. A total of 1,283 de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk aircraft were built between 1946 and 1958. This included 217 built in Canada, 1,000 in the UK, and 66 under license in Portugal.
