The Spotted Hyena Joins a New Clan is a tale about Kujali, Swahili for “Caring One,” who leaves his old clan and begins to search for a new one. Led by common Hyena sounds piercing through the Savannah, Kujali reaches the territory of a new clan, begins the hefty process of getting admitted, and finally gets the security of being part of a group, which is so vital for spotted hyenas. The story was written in consultancy and cooperation with Dr. Eve Davidian and Dr. Oliver Höner from the Ngorongoro Hyena Project, an international team of behavioral biologists who have been studying spotted hyenas in Tanzania since 1996.  Here are a few facts on which it was based: Just like Kujali, male hyenas often leave the clan they were born into, and it can take a few attempts until they get admitted into a new clan.
