Florida Express BAC 1-11 Solid Maple Tail Panel
Designed and crafted in the United States, this laser engraved solid maple panel depicts the vertical tail of the British Aircraft Corporation BAC 1-11 in the markings of Florida Express (ZO). The 1-11 was the industry's first short-haul jet airliner, and the first to employ a T-tail design. The 1-11 seated 60-75 passengers in its first production version, and entered airline service in 1965. A total of 244 were built for airlines in Europe, The Americas, and Asia. The 1-11 was also the first UK-built jet ordered by several U.S. airlines before the later dominance of the business by Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. Each tail panel is engraved to recall an airline that operated the 1-11 with airline markings on one side, and a brief description of the airline on the reverse side. The 1-11 tail panel is approximately 2.6 inches (6.6 cm) tall, and 4.25 inches (10.8 cm) wide, with a matching maple base that measures 4 inches (10.1 cm) long and 1.3 inches (3.3 cm) wide.
