In ancient Viking times Wedding Spoons such as this were a traditional wedding gift. When the husband went off to sea, often for years at a time, his wife would drape the wedding spoons around her neck as a way of insuring her husband's safe return. This set is carved from one piece of wood with knives. The wood used is a Poplar tobacco stick from my Granddad's barn. This set is approximately 57" in length. There are 31 chain links between the two spoons.
