KA1876 CELESTIAL SPHERES   DESCRIPTION: The piece takes inspiration from the surrounding Imperial carpets from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) that hang on the nearby walls. These carpets originally come from the palace at the Forbidden City in Beijing and depict dragons, phoenixes, and flowers, symbolising the Emperor and Empress. The chandelier is made of an inner and outer sphere. More angular shaped crystals on the outer layer represent the dragons and their protection of the realm. Rounder shaped crystals on the inside reference the idea of the floral world, paradise and the Empress. Attract attention, provoke emotion to the imagination with games of light and matter.
