The core of my family heritage is tied to the Scottish Highlands and Isles. No matter how many times I visit, I always have a strong sensation of coming home to my roots. In 2019, my wife and I decided we were long overdue in sharing our love of this magical place through a photography workshop. Working with a boutique Scottish travel partner, we spent 10 days traveling from Inverness to the isles of Lewis and Harris and finally to the Isle of Skye, the home of my core clan, MacLeod, and Dunvegan Castle. This image was made during the early part of our trip while we were at the Callanish Stone Circle on the Isle of Lewis. I had been working with black and white digital infrared for a number of years and had a specially modified digital camera with me on the trip. I confess the "magic" of seeing in my viewfinder light that we humans can't see is pretty seductive...and this scene just seemed to scream "infrared."
