What is cardamom tea? The process of creating cardamom tea involves steeping the harvested seed pods from the cardamom plant. We use both green and black cardamom varieties to make tea. Elettaria cardamomum is the plant from which green cardamom is harvested; its scientific name is Elettaria cardamomum. The taste of this particular kind of cardamom is robust and rich, with notes that are both spicy and somewhat sweet. The plant referred to by its scientific name, Amomum cardamomum, is the source of black cardamom. The energizing, somewhat minty aroma of black cardamom tea balances out its smoky flavor. The seeds of the cardamom plant are used to make both of the different kinds of cardamom tea. In order to extract their flavor, the seeds may either be processed into cardamom powder or steeped directly in hot water.
