Dubble Bubble Original Twist Bubble Gum Tubs
Yankee ingenuity and perseverance created Dubble Bubble Bubble gum. The Fleer Chewing Gum Company tried for years to make workable bubble gum to no avail, until employee Walter Deimer, who liked to experiment with leftover ingredients in his spare time, made the perfect batch in 1928. But upon returning the next morning, Deimer couldn't recreate the gum and spend the next four months trying to recapture it. Finally, he made a successful batch (pink because that's the only color Diemer had at hand), wrapped 100 pieces in twists of paper and took them to a candy store where, at the price of a penny a piece, it sold out in one day. That year, sales of Diemer’s bubble gum, the first-ever commercially sold bubble gum, surpassed $1.5 million. Diemer himself taught his salespeople how to blow bubbles so they could demonstrate and teach potential customers.
