Datahata - Oceanic Mind - 12" - Tone Log Jr. Records - TNLG-08jr Oceanic Mind by DATAHATA “…named after a manual data entry day job 20 years ago…they brought me reams of printouts to key in…I threw a lot of them away…explored the nascent Internet” North Carolinian musician Zeke Graves resurrects his DATAHATA project, a moniker for murky, aquatic, dub-laced electro whose debut release ‘Itinerant Craft’ came out in 2007. Though the intermittent years have yielded rare live sets, a double cassette of vault tracks (Spectral Cities), and a near reissue of ‘Itinerant Craft’ by renowned electro imprint Frustrated Funk (Itinerant Drift), there hasn’t been a true follow-up to the debut and DATAHATA has been more off-radar than on. Seventeen years later, in another place, with different gear, the artist’s unique voice is unmistakable. “This record originated the day following a hairy hurricane experience at Kure Beach with family in 2020 immediately post-pandemic and my dad’s subsequent cancer-related death on April Fools day. I was hiding in an upper-story room with a small mobile rig of basic-ass gear…looking at the placid ocean. I played some simple chords and imagined myself expanding….skimming across the water…riding the waves” TIP! 200 copies, silk screened and stamped by hand
