Native to east and central Asia, the Ring-necked Pheasant was introduced to North America in the late 19th century. Today it's a popular species found across much of the United States and Canada. These large, colorful birds are instantly recognizable with their distinctive long tails, bright copper and green plumage, and the prominent white ring around the neck of the males.  With their preference for open fields, pastures, and agricultural areas, these hardy birds thrive in human-modified landscapes, feeding on a diverse diet of seeds, grains, insects, and vegetation.
