ROCK TOPO Beanie Back before GPS, Garmin’s, Laser Range Finders, and phones/watches that can pinpoint our location exactly and provide directions for our intended destination, topographic maps were and still are a reliable method of navigation. Being able to read a topographic map accurately is being able to look at a 2D map that transforms to life as 3D before your eyes. In my profession as an Airborne Ranger and Jumpmaster/Paratrooper, I had to use it to maneuver and to accurately provide fire support, many times in danger close conditions with lives on the line. It truly is a great skill to acquire that you can use today and into the future, especially when technology fails.
