Hope at Punaluʻu Beach 5
6” x 6” The title Hope at Punaluʻu Beach was inspired by these little shimmers in the black sand. These paintings are a reminder that even in the darkest times, there’s always a glimmer of hope. Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Big Island, and I absolutely fell in love with it—especially the black sand beach at Punaluʻu. The sand there isn’t just black; it has beautiful, colorful hues that shimmer in the sunlight. Capturing this unique effect with resin and different pigments in each layer was such a joy. Each flower is uniquely detailed with gold leaf and acrylic paint. The colorful strokes of paint give a different essence to each flower. Ana Lucia poured resin coats with pure pigments to cover the piece and try to capture the fluid movements of the vibrant colors within the hibiscus.
