Celtic Serpent & Z-Rod Pewter Pendant
One of the most unusual, and most identifiably Pictish is the enigmatic symbol known as the “Z-rod." It is usually found in combination with a serpent, a tomb/doorway, or a double-sun (double disk), all possibly symbols of the solar cycle and the afterlife. This pendant features a snake on rod design, based on a stone carving, a Class 1 symbol stone from Newton House Aberdeenshire, and dated to around the 6th century. This design is found on a number of Pictish stones and could represent wisdom, or possibly new life or beginnings. This Pendant is handmade in Asgard's workshop in Scotland and is cast in lead-free Pewter. Pewter is a malleable metal alloy that is composed mostly of tin and is often used in jewelry because of its strength and durability.
