Native Americans have long known the healing and purifying properties of sage.  Many tribes used it as incense and in special ceremonies, burning it as a spiritual cleanser.  It has also been widely used for digestive problems. Of particular interest to me is its use for the reduction of memory loss in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. One of my favorite memories as a kid were on Thanksgiving mornings, the whole house would smell like sage when Mom put the turkey in the oven.
