I had dreamed of seeing the lavender fields in Valensole for years, so on my summer solo trip to Provence, I got in the car and drove two hours out of my way just to walk through them. As I approached, the landscape turned purple, and the overwhelming smell of lavender suddenly flew into the open car window. Because of the ban on tourists, I had the field to myself. So I walked slowly, running my hand along as I made my way down the dreamiest of aisles.
