Rose Bear Print (2 Sizes)
Rose Bear was a painting that came through during Hurricane Helene's visit to Asheville, NC. I began the underpainting the night before the storm and decided to continue it as I navigated the aftermath, evacuation, and travels outside the area. The underpainting was quick free flowing marks of red and pink - I immediately found the shape of a bear and a rose in the marks. The bear reminded me of the black bears I love seeing around Asheville and the rose deepened in meaning to me as I became aware of the devastation the flooding brought. It felt important to keep painting as I processed the gravity of what had occurred and was looking for ways to support my community. As I worked on the painting and shared my process, I raffled off the original painting & 15 prints to support hurricane relief efforts by Beloved Asheville (https://www.belovedasheville.com/). Here are some of the images I found in it as I worked on this piece and here is what they mean to me: Bear: AVL bears Rose:
