My move to Washington DC changed my artistic point of view only slightly. I had been painting the architecture of Brooklyn New York, so naturally I would be drawn to architecture. In DC the mood was different. The ancient charm of the old brownstones was replaced by the grand and stately appeal of the National monuments. Also, the National Mall is a "white city" so I chose to render theĀ Monuments as linocuts. I wanted also to bring them closer to the human experience and so incorporated flowers that found nearby. For the Capitol I chose the magnolia.
