CIRCA 1951 MONTBLANC 342 FOUNTAIN PEN M to BBB SEMI-FLEX NIB RESTORED
For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1951 Montblanc 342 Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition. I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB and feed. Hand cleaned the cap and barrel. Hand polished the Gold Filled trim and #2 Montblanc Steel NIB. I have Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of fountain pen. This Montblanc 342 has an amber/brown visualated barrel with perfect transparency. The cap has the "MONTBLANC" heat stamp on the side. This 342 is an earlier version due to the Montblanc logo on the side of the cap and dates to circa 1951-1952. This fountain pen cap and barrel are in very good condition showing no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always secures tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Gold Filled Clip that displays no brassing. The Gold Filled cap banding displays no brassing either. The top of the cap has the snowcap outline. The piston filler blind cap securely fits, turns open, and closes with ease - I will mention the blind cap has two areas that have "wear" marks but this is the area where a pin secures the blind cap to the piston rod - this is how I acquired the pen and buffed and polished the area - it does not hinder the performance of the pen and is only cosmetic. There are no personalizations or monograms to either the cap or barrel. This Montblanc 342 size measures 4 3/4" in length capped and 5 5/8" posted. This Montblanc has a piston filling system. The piston filler has been cleaned and greased to work as it was originally intended to. It has new cork. I have tested the piston filler with water and works flawless and operates smoothly. The Montblanc NIB is a #2 Steel Semi-Flexible NIB. The NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .64mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided in the image ranges from a medium line that measures .61mm to a triple broad line of roughly 1.99mm with medium to firm pressure when I measured with digital calipers. The Nib is very responsive, "springy", and writes smoothly for a steel nib. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink. Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap. This Montblanc 342 model is famous for its reliability, perfection in simplicity, both in design and functionality and most importantly famous for its performance and it is a very reliable writer. The pen has the perfect form factor, superb balance, handling and feel, easy to use yet powerful and reliable writing instrument. I would grade this Montblanc 342 to be in Fine to Very Fine Condition - the blemishes on the blind cap hinder it from being in excellent condition in terms of cosmetics. Certainly, if you are a Montblanc collector this is one of those types of pens you will want for your collection that is amazing to write with.
