This is an antique lace making bobbin of turned mahogany wood or treen with antique glass beads made in Bedfordshire, England 1890-1900s. The lace making bobbin for tatting or so called pillow lace making measures 5 inches long and has 1 large green opaque bead, 2 square textured red glass beads and 1 clear square glass bead. The unusual thing is that there are also 5 silver bands that have been applied over the turnings, which is very unusual, and sort of recessed into the wood. The workmanship is superb with the only flaw being a tiny chip off the bottom flair as pictured, and hardly seen! The beads are old and the bobbin is beautifully turned. Lovely!
