Antique 18th Century French Portrait Miniature Tortoise ShellSnuff Box, Powdered Hair, Fichu, 18k Gold Mount
Louis XVI era woman of Nobility, painted in miniature and mounted on a fine snuff box with convex cover glass held in 18k gold mount. The fashion and hair place her in Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette era. Powdered big hair but a slightly more casual gown (also fashion influenced by Marie-Antoinette), a gauzy fichu shawl crossed over the bust. I have not ever removed this one from it's mount, the cover glass is clean and clear and I didn't wish to possibly bend the 18k gold plaque of the mount. I'm never happy with photos through convex glass, and hope you will take into consideration the distortions that causes. Her portrait and the artwork are superb. Full measurements noted on the photos. Very good to excellent condition, the painting wafer is fine, undamaged, but apparently unsigned. It is always possible a signature can be found on perimeter, hidden by the gold mat. Likewise, having not opened it, I'm unsure if there might be written indications within to identify portrait or artist
