Antique 18th Century French Snuff Box in Tortoise Shell and Bronze, Silver Cartouche
From my own collections, a late 1700s French snuff box, canted corners on a rectangular box, the heavy and finest quality mount remains undamaged, and appears to be Dore bronze rather than brass. The elegant cognac to chocolate natural tortoise shell top and bottom halves of the box are beautiful, as well, and top is set with a sterling silver cartouche with burin-engraved monogram, overlapping A, G. Full measurements noted on the photos. Very good condition for age and type, this one has a single flaw to note, and that is a very old break at back fo top or lid, near the hinge. You can see the line of it and that it has been pinned when it was restored - likely more than 100 years ago. This is a 200+ year old snuff box, and displays very well in spite of the flaw. We've shows it from all angles of view for your inspection. No bug bites, no chips or other flaws to note. IMPORTANT NOTE regarding antique tortoise shell or ivory: We are great supporters of protection for endangered specie
