Antique c.1825 French Hand Fan, Perforated Guards, Sticks, Hand Painted Portrait Miniature
Mother and child, hand painted on one side of the small c.1825 fan, and a bouquet of flowers painted on the opposite side. The fan is a portrait fan, a memento made for someone. Charming subject, and lovely early 1800s fan. Measurements noted in both cm and inches. Small, typical of its time, just 6.5" long closed. Initially I thought it might be bone, long striated cell structure, but with even closer inspection, I do believe it is ivory*. Just a couple years past French or 1st Empire era. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Every stick is ornamented with the cut-through design, and while none are broken, there are 2 small flaws in the cutaways. I marked with 'x' for review. The ribbon seems to me the old original. Shown from all angles, for your full review. *IMPORTANT NOTE regarding antique tortoise shell or ivory: We are great supporters of protection for endangered species in our modern world.
