Antique French Coin Purse, Eglomise 1878 Paris Expo Souvenir View, Pique in Gold, Silver
Charming little souvenir from the 1878 Exposition Univerelle, Paris, showing the primary architectural feature, entrance, The Trocadero. Even now it is an icon of Paris, and across the river Seine from the 1889 Expo Grounds upon which still stands the Eiffel Tower. These are such fun to collect. Yes, the interior on this one is a bit tattered for most purse collectors, but the Grand Tour souvenir set and eglomise set will love it. I have, several decades it's been in my own collection. Time to let my things go. I hope this darling one will find a loving home. Very good condition, exterior convex tortoise shell front and back are each in great shape, without bug bites nor cracks, chips. The gold and silver pique work on the front is really beautiful and has no loss nor lifts. The oval inset of a back-painted (eglomise) souvenir view of The Trocadero, Paris, has very light loss of paint as you can see. Were I picky, I'd take it out and touch it up from the back side.
