Antique French Hand Painted Portrait Miniature, Medal, in 18k Gold Mat Snuff Box
The wonderful c.1810-30 portrait miniature you see here is mounted on a perfectly wonderful snuff box lid, but the bottom half of the old original snuff box has gone missing over the centuries. The portrait works now as one to hang or to display with snuffs on a table top, but remember it has no bottom half. The painting is remarkably fine, perfectly protected beneath the original slightly convex cover glass, and is kept in an original mat that tests 18k gold. The well dressed young man with those deeply set eyes and arched brows of an aristocrat wears the French Legion of Honor medal on his deep c.1830s lapel. I have not yet identified this medal, but your own research will certainly find it a clue to the identity of the gentleman. I do not find a signature. Measurements are noted on the photos. Very good to excellent condition throughout. No chips, no cracks, no warp, no loss of painting nor frame other than that it is the top of a snuff box, as noted, and the bottom half is not with
