Antique French Portrait Miniature Snuff Box, 18k Gold Mat, Id'd Daughter of Guard of Louis XVI
Another of the fine Antique French portrait miniatures of a beautiful young woman, c. 1870s, whose ID is given. She is Madmoiselle Descoutrees of the Gironde, daughter of the guard of Louis XVI. That would put her accurately dated to the reign of French King Louis XVI, May 10, 1774 - his death at guillotine, 21 September, 1793 (age 38). No artiste signature, but a charming portrait, a string of large pearls woven into her hair and a filmy white gown. The portrait is almost as large as the snuff box, is mounted under convex cover glass with an 18k gold mat. All photos have been taken through the cover glass. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The painting is in excellent form, not signed by the artist but it is ID'd. If there is a signature, it remains hidden on the edge of portrait under the 18k gold mat, or perhaps info could be found on back of portrait. I didn't take the portrait mount out of this one, fearing disruption. The box has very old and repaired breaks on
