Antique French Sterling Silver Double Open Salt or Sweet Meat Serving Caddy
Elegant antique French sterling silver double open salt or sweet meat caddy with acanthus accented center handle, guilloche style engraved base and thick wheel cut & intaglio engraved glass! The satin-frosted & intaglio etched or engraved double cup of this one looks so much like fine Lalique glass items, doesn't it, but we haven't a signature we can rely upon to point to it being that. The silver is marked with a French Minerve #1, which guarantees we have fine .950/1000 (95% pure) French silver here, though, and that certainly speaks to the quality. The silversmith mark is for Francois Marceau, Paris circa 1878-1890s. Use it for sweet meats at the table or side table, or as a large double open salt, it'll elevate the elegance of your table. Very good condition. There are 2-3 tiny edge nips so the glass but no larger chips, no cracks, damage or repairs to note. There is a bit of faint dimpling to the round base, a push to the front bottom edge visible in the images. See pictur
