Fine Antique French Victorian Era Mottled Tortoise Shell and Horn Snuff Box, 3 1/2" Long

From old collections, this is a beautiful mid-1800s snuff box, the long box form, either in thick carved tortoise shell or perhaps horn with a semi-opaque tortoise shell panel as lid. It is 3 1/2" long, very well preserved. Very good to excellent condition for age and type, no breaks to the box, hinge works perfectly well, and pieces fit smoothly and snug, still.  IMPORTANT NOTE regarding antique tortoise shell or ivory: We are great supporters of protection for endangered species in our modern world.
