Original Box, Set of 2 Tortoise Shell Coin Purse & Necessaire, Card Case - Tortoiseshell & Pique
It's rare enough to find a matching pair of fine 1840-50s French shell items, but rarer still to find them still with their original domed & monogrammed leather presentation box, but here is one more beautiful set for our collectors to enjoy. A fabulous early Napoleon III set, these were often given as gifts, sometimes related to communion or other Catholic milestones, and sometimes came along with a matching prayer book. We have 2 other boxed sets that are complete with prayer books, one of which was specially made for actess Sarah Bernhardt. Be sure to look through to see all! But this beautiful set is rich with a gold pique in overall pattern, accented by the belting monogram cartouche on both pieces. All monograms match, box and items, and there is no question that they are the originals. Just less than perfect on that necessaire or card case, but the coin case and outer box are excellent, and the set are fabulous as display pieces. Very good to excellent condition for age
