Superb 20" Square Throw Pillow with 18th Century Antique French Aubusson Tapestry and 4" Fringe Passementerie
Clean and new down and feather pillow form inside (yes, you can crease the center), and fresh rough linen fabric backing with zipper, a cotton velvet front onto which that stunning 1700s or earlier Aubusson tapestry has been mounted upon, making a magnificent decorator item, throw pillow. The tapestry panel with its figural presentation would have been a repurposed chair back tapestry, rising slightly middle top. The best panels are chair backs because they rarely ever have wear or any splitting to the woven tapestry. This little guy is either a traveling musician with travel piano, or it might be a boy vendor of birds, very popular in mid-1700s. Note the woven drapery and florals finishing off this 16" x 14" tapestry panel. The panel has been trimmed out with luxurious 4" silk passementerie, also quite valuable and harder to find the old French made trims.
