FULL METAL MICKEY
Hailing from Australia, Ben Frost has been on the cusp of breaking through to true “Blue Chip” status for the last few years. His originals, as well as prints (always small editions) are in constant demand. Frost uses familiar, American branding (in this case Remington Shells) or often prescribed narcotic prescription medications as the backdrop for his highly stylized images (often times overtly sexualized women or seemingly harmless, often times childish images, such as Super Mario or Mickey Mouse) to juxtapose perception versus reality. In this large scale print; rich with colour as well as juxtaposition, you have a Remington Shell box, with its deep green hues used as the backdrop for the artist’s take on Mickey Mouse ; the beaming, familiar, smile of the Disney character immediately draws in the viewers attention, only to reveal the familiar Character is shown brandishing a large revolver.
