This is one of our favorite sauces because of its pure simplicity. Many popular legends trace the origins of this classic flavor combination to 1889 when chef Raffaele Esposito created a pizza for Queen Margherita of Savoy that was inspired by the colors of the national flag of Italy, in honor of Italy's unification.  The freshest, juicy local tomatoes and a touch of fragrant basil perfume Don Antonio's Sugo di Pomodoro al Basilico, which is absolutely perfect on its own.
