Thomas Harvey's Journal Ebony Box
This handmade ebony box was custom-made to house Thomas Harvey's journal from 1830 to 1900. 50 cm x 23 cm x 31 cm 13 Kilograms Designed by Lawrence Harvey and executed by Prof. Auguste Martinoli in July 1905, it was later bequeathed to the Bibliothèque de Genève by Robert and Lawrence Harvey. The box itself is made of ebony and the book covers were made of Transvaal leather. The total cost was 532 francs, with the box costing 212 francs and the bindings costing 320 francs. It was gifted by Robert Harvey on November 15, 1905, 10 rue Calvin in Geneva. Thomas Harvey (1817-1900). Born in England in 1817, he comes from a large family that owns a large grocery store in London. As a young man, he moves to Geneva to live with his uncle Borgeaud. He becomes an English professor at the Naville Institute in Vernier and Toepffer boarding school. He also gives a large number of private lessons.
