Elbridge Thomas Gerry, often referred to as "Commodore" Gerry, was a prominent American lawyer and reformer, known for his tenure as Commodore of the New York Yacht Club from 1886 to 1892. He was also the grandson of U.S. Vice President Elbridge Gerry, a signatory of the Declaration of Independence. This particular bottle of Madeira is a true historical treasure. The note in the case reads: "RARE OLD MADEIRA - An incredible perfumey Madeira, imported in the cask for Elbridge T. Gerry in the middle of the 19th century. Bottled and sealed with wax for Mr. Gerry’s own use. The original bottling and seal are intact."
