Trochus snail
Trochus sp. : Aquarist Experience Level: Beginner Average mature size : 1.5 inches Temperament: Peaceful Reef Compatibility: Yes Aquarium Hardiness: High Temperature: 72.0 to 78.0° F Description: The Banded Trochus Snail thrives in a mature aquarium environment that offers plenty of hiding spots and space to explore. It primarily consumes algae, cyanobacteria, and diatoms found on live rock, substrate, and aquarium glass. This snail is particularly effective at controlling film algae but only grazes lightly on other problematic algae like hair algae. Ideal for reef tanks, Trochus species are sensitive to elevated nitrate levels and cannot tolerate copper-based treatments. A slow acclimation, ideally using the drip method, is essential for their health.
