Lima Map

Lima, capital of Peru. Colonists landed in 1532 planting their fingerprints all over the design of the city, from the regal squares and balcony-lined streets. It wasn't always such a big city, and much of the expansion started in 1940 after a huge earthquake rocked the city. My South American adventuring design partner David Hennessy was in charge of this one, responding to the overall feeling of the place to make a map that makes sense in design and arrangement.  ABOUT THE IDEAInformation is more fun to read when it's beautiful. I've designed these charts and maps with hours of research, reassembling data into a brain-friendly aesthetic. I edit the information significantly, avoiding the "dazzle" effect which occurs when our eyes are battered with too much information. Letterpress makes it even more gorgeous.
